The light and sound show which was on several times a week was worth the 5 minute walk to the lake. The only negative is that the hotel is a little tired and frayed around the edges but nevertheless very clean. Date of stay: September 2023. Trip type: Traveled as a couple. Zell am See is a picturesque town in Austria at the foothill of the High Tauern mountain range that includes Grossglockner, the highest peak in Eastern Alps. The town as well as neighboring Kaprun offers stunning view of lake Zell with the Alpa as a backdrop. We drove to Thumersbach park which offers free parking, lovely trail and many photo
Zell am See has a nice town and the scenery of the lake in winter time is magical. Skiing wise it has some decent black runs down to the town centre. Not a big place to ski but so is Lech but Lech + Zurs do offer the nice "White Ring". Visitors will have the opportunity to ski the nearby Kaprun which is on the ski ski pass. It is a short bus ride.
Zell am See and Kaprun, two renowned resorts, are at the heart of Salzburg's unique holiday region. It is worth starting your visit to this picturesque land from the road that winds like a serpentine along the mountain slopes covered with eternal snow and leads to the edge of the glacier. In the beautiful valley of Lake Zeller See, at the foot of the mountains, lies the charming town of Zell
I'm like 50 km away from Zell am See right now! I've just been to the largest ice cave in the world near Werfen. Really worth a visit if you ask me.

Review of Zell Am See. Reviewed September 6, 2022. Watched the swimming stage of Ironman. Incredible spectacle with a lot of entrants the sight and noise was amazing. Congrats to all participants in particular to the Pro Women winner Emma Pallant-Browne (GB).
Review of A Bit of Irish. Reviewed March 7, 2012. A genuine Irish Bar, suberbly run by Julie and Declan, all the way from Dublin's fair city.. Its a real gem in the middle of the Austrian Alps which you must not miss. Apart from their witty Irish charm you must not miss this "only non-smoking bar" in Zell am See, a real find.
1. Re: Salzburg and Salzkammergut and Zell am See - how to choose. If you have completed a cycle tour of the Salzkammergut then you will find Zell am See pretty much of the same. I agree with the previous poster. If you love walking/cycling get down to the area around Hallstatt and spend a couple of days.
